Yes, this is a dystopian book, but I can’t compare to the Hunger Games because I didn’t read the Hunger Games *Gasps *Hissing. I know. I know. I tried but couldn’t get into that story. This story tho – GREAT! I read this 501 page book in a 24 hour period and couldn’t put it down. I’m usually not one to pick up a dystopian style story, so the fact I got taken with this one is making me reconsider – or that the author, Veronica Roth, weaved a great tale despite it.
I really enjoyed the political themes of the book as well as who a person chooses to be versus how others expect them to be per the cultivation of a particular virtue. Great story arch and conflicts abound to keep the story moving forward at a good pace. I really enjoyed the characters and the journey of growth. To learn more, see some of my favorite quotes from the story and check out my book review below (click on the link).
“I feel like someone breathed new air into my lungs. I am not Abnegation. I am not Dauntless. I am Divergent.”
“Becoming fearless isn’t the point. That’s impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.”
“Politeness is deception in pretty packaging.”
