This is a Young Adult story about Mara Dyer in the aftermath of a tragedy where she is the surviver of a building collapse where three of her friends die, which include her best friend and boyfriend.

Mara’s mind is unraveling as she takes up in a new town and new school with her family.  To see more of my review, click here:

My favorite quotes from the story:

“Fix me,” I commanded him. “This thing, what I’ve done – there’s something wrong with me, Noah. Fix it.” Noah’s expression broke my heart as he brushed my hair from my face, and skimmed the line of my neck. “I can’t”

“Why not?” I asked, my voice threatening to crack.

“Because,” he said, “You’re not broken.”  ― Michelle Hodkin, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

“Did I just see you litter?’
‘I’m driving a hybrid. It cancels out.” ― Michelle Hodkin, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

“Asscrown,” I muttered under my breath as I headed to my next class. I wasn’t proud of swearing at a complete stranger, no. but he started it.

Noah matched my pace. “Don’t you mean ‘assclown’?” He looked amused.

“No,” I said, louder this time. “I mean asscrown. The crown on top of the asshat that covers the asshole of the assclown. The very zenith in the hierarchy of asses,” I said, as though I was reading from a dictionary of modern profanity.

“I guess you nailed me then.” ― Michelle Hodkin, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

OOOs and OOh… (Lux Series 1-5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

So I just read the entire Lux series books 1-5 in 13 days, loved it and of course like a book nerd, sad it’s over! Basically what you’re getting is a YA (Young Adult), SciFi, Romance book. If you’re not a fan of these types of books, you most likely won’t enjoy it, but if you are – jackpot.

This series is about Katy moving and starting her senior year in a new school in a small West Virginia town. She is a blogger and book nerd, therefore 14743935I completely love her character (there are other reasons to like Katy too). Her neighbors are a bit different, they are twins Dee and Daemon Black, they are aliens and not Alf mind you – yep, you guessed it the beautiful kind. But wait, they have personalities and fun quirky ones at that.

Complications, adventures, character growth, story arcs; it’s got it all. I really enjoyed books 1-2 and the hook was in me, by book 3 – forgetta about-it, I was/am a complete fan. Reminder, I read them back to back as my own personal mental movie series for the last 13 days and yes, I have a full time job and family to attend too☺.  Let’s not be petty tho on the attention of ordering pizza or other shortcuts that may have occurred during this time period, I plead the fifth.

So brass tacks – this is the reading order and behind each link you’ll find my Goodreads review, along with my favorite quotes from each book. Yes, most of them are sarcastic quotes from Daemon.

Presenting the OOOs & OOhs:
Obsidian (book 1)
Onyx (book 2)
Opal (book 3) Totally my favorite!
Origin (book 4) A close 2nd to being my favorite… ☺
Opposition (book 5) All things must end, epic conclusion and I certainly enjoyed the ride.

Are you reading the Lux series or are you in process of reading any of these? If not, put on your ‘to read’ list.

Did you like this post/review, if so let me know below with a like or share.  All comments welcome, did you like or dislike these books? Any series that you gush about that might be similar you’d recommend? I love getting new books to read 😉

Defy By Sara B Larson

Rating: 5  out of 5 Stars

I obviously really enjoyed this story, per my star rating above.  As you know, I’m stingy on handing out 5 stars ratings.  This book is YA (Young Adult), and this middle-aged adult couldn’t put it down.  I enjoy the switcheroo type stories then this had a Merlin type backdrop that put me in heaven.  I thought it was a great story, there are certainly some mixed reviews on it, but stories and entertainment are subjective.

Fantastic tale set in Medieval times about a girl (Alexa) and her twin brother (Marcel) in their roles for survival upon their parents deaths.  Alexa will assume her new identity as Alex to join her brother in the king’s army.  Certainly no damsels in distress here.  Alex is a powerful character in disguise.  His/her character growth is well paced and revealing as most teenaged girls.

Stolen Bloodline by Mishka Jenkins

22363903Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

If you are a fan of paranormal romances with vampires, and want to enjoy it in only a weekend or a couple of days – yep this is your book!  I picked up this book because I enjoy Mishka’s blog writing and pieces in WordPress.  I love supporting Indie Authors too.  Sometimes stories get to carried away for me, with backdrops and descriptions that don’t really add to the story – here is not the case!  This is a great, fun, fast read at a little over 100 pages that you’ll be thrown into an adventure immediately with Imogen.

Quotes I enjoyed from the story to give you more flavor to the story:

“What moment? Imogen thought angrily to herself. There was no moment, there had been nothing. Her lies were almost comforting. If there was anyone not to have a moment with, it was definitely her vampire captor.” -Mishka Jenkins

“Afraid?” Imogen blinked her dry, wide eyes. “You’re supposed to be dead!”
“Technically, she is,” Caden added as he sat splayed with casual ease in his chair, enjoying the moment in perverted glee.”
-Mishka Jenkins

“Imogen’s throat tightened with unrestrained love. All her life she had wished for a fairytale love…”
-Mishka Jenkins (sorry all, can’t finish that quote and not spoil it!)
