Here are my answers to Diane’s questions:

  1. What are you reading right now?

(non-fiction) Book Marketing is Dead by Derek Murphy

(fiction) Shearwater by Derek Murphy

2. Why are you reading that particular book?

I just finished my novel under my pen name and I am looking at my next steps for self-publishing and what my DIY options are, so that is the reason for the first book by Derek.  In the same vein, I love YA and supporting my fellow indie authors and I picked up his book, which was free on Amazon the other day.  Plus when was the last time I read about mermaids? Yep, I’m intrigued.

3.  Would you recommend it others? Why or why not?

For self-publishing authors, definitely worth the read.  Lots of good information in there and helps you figure out your pathway in planning for sure.  I literally just started Shearwater, so I can’t say yet but based on reviews I saw it should be worth wild.

4.  Who’s your most favourite author ever? Why?

How can anyone answer this – my most favorite ever? So many… in various categories.

JK Rowling.

I bought the first three Harry Potter books because she was getting a little buzz at my bookstore, and I figured my oldest daughter who was a toddler at the time, might read them and I should check them out.  I was in love with the stories and quickly my husband was reading behind me, nudging me if I was finished with the next book.  I was hooked, and my enthusiasm continued onward to the movies as well.  In fact, I saw the last movie with my bestie in London at a red carpet premiere!  We didn’t get the memo to dress up as characters, but we had a great time dodging the TV crews and getting our popcorn.  Then reminiscing over at a local pub.

5.   Is there one book you read that changed your life? Or got you thinking about changing your life?

Danielle LaPorte,  The Desire Map.  I actually read this book at the end of every year in preparation for the new year.  It’s freeing each time I read it and I find something new each year.  I love it and yes have given away copies of it.

6.  What writing (or other) project are you currently working on?

My YA book titled: Unwanted Magick under my pen name Mira Monroe.  I just finished it, May 31st!! It’s off to a few beta readers and my editor.  I’m beyond thrilled, it’s a huge accomplishment for me.

Check my Author FB page for latest updates: Mira Monroe  or at Twitter or on Instagram

(yep, slave to social media, because it’s awesome!)

7.  What’s the hardest thing about writing (or working on your current project)?

Getting over being perfect and judging myself as wrote.  I had started novels in the past only to rewrite and throw in the trash a few times.  Via, my Desire Mapping (see question 5) last year I hired a writing coach to get me through it – the hit you over the head Steve Windsor.  I needed it and I did finish my first draft of Unwanted Magick late 2015!

I sat on it and started my revision work in May.  He gave me the freedom to rewrite and secure the story I wanted in 1-2 edit reviews and then to get outta my way and move it along.  It’s interesting, I knew deep down what I needed to do, I’ve taken classes, read the how-to books, but I needed that personal touch to call me out on my crap like;

“Cassie, do you want it published or do you want it perfect?” Steve Windsor

“Cassie, are you writing or making excuses? What is your word count today?” Steve Windsor

I would love to be a coach for others one day, but that would be an excuse right now because I need to write.  I need to experience the road. 🙂

Check out Steve’s Author Basics website, great tools for authors.

8.   If a movie was made about your life, who would play you?

Drew Barrymore.   I tend to like her roles in the past, I think she’d get my humor  while looking disheveled in my put together kind of way.

9.   If you could have any super human quality, what would it be?

I would love to have the gift of all languages.  To speak, to read, and to understand them all  with little to no effort – wow, what a gift and super human quality that would be awesome.  I always envy those who are multi-lingual.

On a side note, if I could have transporting skills and skip the airports, trains, and automobiles – oh yea that would be awesome too, must be the Trekkie in me.

10.   What is something that scares the pants off you that you’d like to achieve or do in the next 12 months?

I’m doing it – Self-Publishing scares me but excites me.

11.  And the most important question of all: puppies or kittens?

I guess saying both would be a cop-out, but dang anything baby is adorable.   Puppies – because look at my Finn, he is the cutest!Meet Mr. Finn (a.k.a. Bubba)

Once Upon A Lovely Blog Award

Thank you to the lovely and talented Jean Cogdell for my nomination for the Lovely Blog Award this past weekend.  one_lovely_blog_awardI’m honored she enjoys my blog post and encourages me to participate in writing prompts and all the fun on her blog.  If you’re a writer, she has great tips and lots of fun on her page.

This award comes with instruction that I am to tell you 7 facts about myself.

Once Upon A Time…

1. I was a director in 4th grade for our school play Hansel and Gretel.  This began my career of telling others what to do.

2. I had a pet tarantula named Creepy Crawler – “Creepy” for short.  He was found on a dirt road in Oklahoma, where my Dad rescued him in a paper bag and had me ride with him in the back of the truck.  My fear for spiders haven’t changed much but Creepy was cool.

3. I had a mullet hairstyle in middle school, but I swear I rocked it and it was super cute! Business in the front, party in the back.

4. I pretended I was lost boy when I was 6 years old on the Peter Pan boat/ride at Disney Land so that I wouldn’t have to leave, Peter Pan helped me find my parents, which originally I denied I knew where they were.   This started my love of rogue ‘bad’ boys.

5. I swam with sharks at Disney World, it was exciting but scary all at the same time.  My daughters where yelling the entire time, “Don’t Die!” so I guess it worked out for both of us.

6. I love cheese, all kinds, even the stinky ones.  Pair it with a good wine and cracker, I’m in heaven. I’ve never met a cheese I didn’t appreciate.

7. I still have VCR tapes in a box (for those who don’t know, VCR tapes are like DVDs of today but way older/bigger and with actual film, just kidding its tape).  Why I retain these I have no idea, I do hold onto the past from time to time.

Lastly the final requirement, I bestow the ‘Lovely Blog’ award on some new sites I am enjoying via the links below.

1. Fiction All Day   2. Writerly Goodness   3. Write on the River   4. Writingindevizes   5. Morning Story and Dilbert   6. A Writer’s Path   7. Pursuit of Happiness

Take a moment and check out the above blogs along with Jean’s.

Thanks again, Jean!

Lovely Blog Award – Indeed!

lovely-blogWhat a fantastic way to start the week, receiving this award! Thank you Vik at Manuscript Tunes.  I’m thrilled you enjoy my blog and thought of me for this award.

There are so many bloggers who inspire me and provide community so freely that it makes it special and worth wild.

Directions are simple: Thank the nominator, paste the image, state 7 random facts about yourself, and tag other ~15 {more or less} bloggers. I’ve got 13 to share below, because it’s my hubby’s favorite number, so why not.

7 Random Facts About Me:

1.  I am a fantastic cook, I’m totally gonna boost here.  I don’t really follow a recipe most days, just go with ideas of what will taste good together and I come up with some fantastic meals with very little.  In fact, I’m the grill master in my home.  I’ve had the occasional foul up, but I’m more critical on my cooking than anyone else.  Cooking is love 🙂

2. My birthday is this month and my gift to myself was a 30 day detox to reset my biology.  A hug to my growing older anatomy to say “Yeah, I still got it!”.  I’m heading into week 2 and really doing well so far with no caffeine, gluten, sugar, red meat, alcohol, dairy and toxins.  Whew! It’s gonna be fun.  I dragged my bestie in with me – hopefully she’ll still love me after!

3. I love superhero’s and am a total geek about it too.  My all time favorite superhero is Superman, it’s hard to beat him, Kryptonite be damned!  I was that girl discussing what actors should be in X-men should they ever make it a movie, like 20 years ago – fyi…only Halle Barry made it via my predictions.

4.  I got married on Valentine’s Day over 18 years ago at the city court house.  I wanted to wear a red dress but my mother convinced me not too, because she said it screamed harlot.  My hubby and I are talking about renewing our vows at year 20 and I’m thinking I might wear red.  I mean we have 2 children I don’t think you can call me harlot now can you? Is it all safe? Ha!

5.  I love dance movies! Seriously – Step Up…2…3…4…5 if they make it I will watch it!  I think the first one had me at Channing Tatum, none the less I love them.  I used to love watching the TV show Fame when I was a teenager.  I took dance when I was younger and still shake my tail feather now and then.  Dancing is joy.

6.  I will always choose the book before a movie, but I will always go to see the movie based on a book.  I think of it as a visual guide to the book and try hard not to judge to harshly.  There are times where I can’t get to the book before the movie, and unless I’m really moved I won’t pick up the book.  My teenager is still reeling I didn’t read Hunger Games, but go to the movies with her.  The first book didn’t capture me and I never finished it.

7.  I am working on 2 stories now; #1 is a short story  I wrote from a prompt in Featured Fiction that I’m expanding entitled Haven’s DragonSwain; #2 is a novel about a teenage girl who is kindred to royal witches, set at a new private school in New Orleans.  She doesn’t believe in witches but her powers become unbound that is a siren’s call for those who want her unclaimed power.  It should be a fun NANOWriMo this year! Lots to do, as long as I can keep organized and manage it all.

7 Interesting Things about Me:

1. I have a fascination with sharks, I know more than the usual novice and shark week is like being in a candy store for me.  I’m excited and terrified all at the same time. (Cuz you know, candy – sugar; rotten teeth – ewe!)

2. I have the genetic gene that allows me to flip my tongue over to each side, and have passed that beauty of a gene onto my daughters – nope husband can’t do it, cracks us all up.

3. I can type over 75 words a minute without looking at the keyboard.  My mother made me take a typing class (I moaned about it at the time) to have something to fall back on – who knew, I’d use it everyday with the computer.  The woman was genius!

4. I own, 3 Kindles.  Yep the newest one is a PaperWhite Kindle and my total favorite.  My teen and husband have adopted the older models.  Can someone have too many books or eReaders? I think not!  Yes, I’m also guilty of having a hard back copy and eBook copy of the same book (doesn’t everyone?).

5.  I have lived in 10 states and 2 countries so far in my life.  My top choices where I’ve lived so far; Germany, Florida, Tennessee, Kansas and Oklahoma – fond memories that have really shaped me.  Someday I may live in Italy too 🙂 Come on lottery ticket!

6. My all time favorite TV shows, in which I own DVDs for are: Smallville and Boston Legal.  I’ve been watching Smallville again lately, Superman is awesome!  Tom Welling isn’t too bad to look at either, purrr.

7. I love Mike Rowe’s voice, doesn’t matter what he’s narrating that my husband is watching (Dirty Jobs, Deadiest Catch,  Paint drying on a wall) – I will find it interesting because his voice is swoon worthy.  Sorry Morgan Freeman, Mike’s an opera trained manly man and funny to boot.  Mike sing me a lullaby… total bucket list wish right there!

Not all the deepest darkest secrets shared, but hope they were at least interesting enough your still here, but I hear the music in the background so thank you for enjoying my nomination and if you don’t follow me regularly come on and do so – what could it hurt? 🙂
