This is a YA story that is a sci-fi retelling/reimagined Cinderella story. Cinder is a story with a sci-fi background set in New Beijing. Cinder, the main character is talented mechanic and a cyborg, I say heck yea! How fun is this ride going to be? Well, I wanted it to be awesome. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it but I didn’t love it mostly due to some drag time in moving the plot forward in the beginning. The author picks up pace mid way and ends on a high for the next book.
Cinder is blamed by her step mother for her step sister’s illness, which is a pandemic. Cinder meets Prince Kai, where he is seeking her talents to fix his android. There is the royal ball coming up in part for the announcement of a marriage for Kai and the Lunar Queen, for political purposes of course. There are lots of interesting conflicts with twists and turns.

My favorite quotes from the book:
“Even in the Future the Story Begins with Once Upon a Time.” ― Marissa Meyer, Cinder
“I’m sure I’ll feel much more grateful when I find a guy who thinks complex wiring in a girl is a turn-on.” ― Marissa Meyer, Cinder
“But if there was one thing she knew from years as a mechanic, it was that some stains never came out.” ― Marissa Meyer, Cinder

This book was published September 2011 so I’m a little late to the party. Let me clarify party, yes there are literally thousands of fans ringing in the praises of this story. Rightfully so, it’s a good one and the writing is great, an author to watch & read more of. My biggest issue was pace of the story and I was/am grumpy about the ending for a solid book of 418 pages.
This is a fantasy young adult book and appropriate for this age and older (a proud salute to those older adults such as myself). This story tackles themes about love, war, right, wrong and the perceptions of each. To learn more, see some of my favorite quotes from the book and check out my book review below.

“Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love. It did not end well.” ― Laini Taylor, Daughter of Smoke & Bone
“Hey! My body may be small, but my soul is large. It’s why I wear platforms. So I can reach the top of my soul.”
― Laini Taylor, Daughter of Smoke & Bone
“It is a condition of monsters that they do not perceive themselves as such. The dragon, you know, hunkered in the village devouring maidens, heard the townsfolk cry ‘Monster!’ and looked behind him.” ― Laini Taylor, Daughter of Smoke & Bone

There is a lot of buzz about the Hunger Games, I did not board that train, because I didn’t get hooked within the first few chapters so, I gave up. Maybe I’ll give it a go later, but my excitement is all about Nick, Nick Gautier (pronounced Go-Shay).
Infamous is the title of the 3rd book in the ‘Chronicle’s of Nick’ series written by the talented, Sherrilyn Kenyon. I received this via my Kindle on March 13th and had it read by March 16th – yep it’s that good, a bit darker but still a great ride! This is a young adult spin off of one of my favorite characters in the adult paranormal romance series ‘The Dark Hunters’ by the same author. I have to admit I just want to know what is going to happen with this character and how this will be weaved into ‘The Dark Hunters’ series. If you haven’t given it a try, you should or at least your teens should… what an adventure and what fun!
About the book:
Now Nick’s saga continues in the next eagerly anticipated volume…
Go to school. Get good grades. Stay out of trouble. That’s the mandate for most kids. But Nick Gautier isn’t the average teenager. He’s a boy with a destiny not even he fully understands. And his first mandate is to stay alive while everyone, even his own father, tries to kill him.
He’s learned to annihilate zombies and raise the dead, divination and clairvoyance, so why is learning to drive such a difficulty? But that isn’t the primary skill he has to master. Survival is.
And in order to survive, his next lesson makes all the others pale in comparison. He is on the brink of becoming either the greatest hero mankind has ever known.
Book Series Order:
1st Book – Infinity
2nd Book – Invincible
3rd Book – Infamous (just released)
4th Book – Inferno – coming soon… March 2013
